An asbestos-related lawsuit has recently been filed in a Texas court naming thirty-eight defendant corporations as being responsible for a mans development of an asbestos-related illness.  The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Raymond Hairston Jr. on February 20th in the Orange County District Court of Texas.

In the suit it is stated that a number of companies at which Hairston worked at conspired to conceal the dangers associated with asbestos-containing materials by withholding scientific and medical data regarding the dangerous nature of the substance.  It was while working for such companies that Hairston is alleged to have been exposed to asbestos which later resulted in his development of an asbestos-caused disease.

A number of diseases may be caused by exposure to asbestos including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis.  Because such diseases tend to have such a long latency period finding even palliative treatment by the time they are diagnosed is very difficult, if not impossible.  In many cases by the time such a disease is diagnosed it is already in advanced stages of development.

Defendant companies named in the lawsuit include Zurn Industries, Viacom, and General Electric.

In the lawsuit both exemplary and punitive damages are being sought in an unspecified amount.
