Asbestos Contract Signed for New Jersey School

Officials for the Martha B. Day School in Bloomingdale, N.J. have agreed upon an asbestos abatement contract with Two Brothers Contracting of Clifton. The abatement project will cost the Bloomingdale School District $35,752.

Both floors of the school need abatement. The fifteen-year old asbestos tiles are currently sealed under the carpeted floors. The job will include removal of both the tiles and the carpet. George Hagl, a school administrator, expects the project to be completed within a month.

Asbestos exposure has been identified as a cause of mesothelioma, a dangerous and aggressive cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, stomach and heart. The disease is often fatal as it is not detected until its advanced stages.

Bidding for the new floors will be opened on July 28.
